Who are we and
what you can expect

Do you have anxiety around food? Do you turn to food
when stressed? Do you restrict, binge or purge food?

Formed in 2015 by the NHS Community Eating Disorders Service in Hertfordshire we are a group of people that have first hand experience of eating disorders. Our meetings are completely confidential and open to anyone who is experiencing difficulties with food - you do not need to be referred by a GP or have been formally diagnosed with an eating disorder. Come along and exchange information, experiences and gain support to help you recover.

We understand that no matter where you are in your recovery, walking into a support group for the first time can be a daunting experience.
So here's a bit of information to give you an idea of what you can expect from Hope for Herts.

We are a peer support group, so you'll meet other people in similar situations to you. 'It's good to talk', 'A problem shared is a problem halved'...
its all true - we hope that by sharing experiences and supporting one another we can all leave the meeting feeling a little bit less weighed
down with the troubles of the week.

We welcome anyone who is having difficulties with eating, whether this is the first time you have spoken about it or have already sought professional help.

Most weeks we invite everyone to share what's on their mind. If it's your first week you may want to share your story so far and what has brought you to the meetings. Some weeks you may not feel like speaking; listening to other peoples experiences might be the support you need at that time - please let us know if you feel like this on a particular week. Occasionally we run more structured sessions with guest speakers on a particular topic which we feel may be beneficial to your recovery.

Tea, coffee and squash will be available. For everyone's comfort we would prefer that you don't eat during the meetings.

Our meetings are completely confidential and free of charge.
